Garry and Amy are diving back into the pond for this episode of Pour The Wine, It’s Rom-Com Time, where they break down and review The Way Home Season 4, Episode 8, Tainted Love.

Elliot chooses to remain in 1925, determined to uncover the truth about his mother while stepping into the world of bootlegging himself. Meanwhile, Cliff and Fern continue to grow closer, and Tessa finally reveals the truth about Griffin and how she came to the Landry family.

Back in Port Haven, Alice’s trip to the early 1980s delivers some rare and heartwarming moments with Del and Colton, along with a vulnerable Evelyn scene that suggests she may know more than she's letting on. In the present day, the mystery deepens with the spliced film reel revelation, Jacob and Abby's painfully relatable dinner with Del and Sam, and the discovery that the key is actually a cipher hidden within Fern’s writing.

With the series finale just around the corner, Garry and Amy discuss all the clues, surprises, emotional moments, and lingering questions as the story races toward its conclusion.

Pour yourself a glass, get cozy, and press play! Cheers!

SPEAKER_03

I know, I know.

SPEAKER_00

All right. This episode was written by Michael Hanley and directed by Michelle Lenimere. So let's drop the sun-ups.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_00

With his mama. Oh my god. And this is a part of the podcast where we tell you if you haven't seen this episode yet, turn us off. Go watch it. Come back and let us know because we're probably going to drop some spoilers. No, we probably will. Not probably. We will.

SPEAKER_00

On this type of series.

SPEAKER_03

So because I mean I don't even know how we would talk about it.

SPEAKER_00

You can't.

SPEAKER_03

I I I don't even know. Except we'd be like, well, we like the episode. We're done.

SPEAKER_00

I know. It's it's it's hard. It's hard not to drop little surprises here and there, but you ready to dive into it?

SPEAKER_03

All right. So we ended the last episode, episode number seven. Casey and Sam have a connection. Yeah, they're Dell and Sam have professed their love for one another. Jacob and Abby had

Where Everyone Left Off

SPEAKER_03

a shared a kiss.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my goodness, goodness.

SPEAKER_03

Elliot doesn't jump in, jump into the pond to go back to the present with Kat. He stays in 1925.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he does.

SPEAKER_03

Kat and Alice discover the newspaper articles that Elliot was looking at, and they realize that there is a picture of him in one of the newspaper articles, and he has been arrested as the big fish.

SPEAKER_00

Let's be honest. He forefingered one thumbdo's papers home. That's what he did.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Let's call it what it is.

SPEAKER_03

He did. Well, he didn't bring the paper, but he brought a lot of cop. Well, a couple of the papers were the actual copies. So he's gonna return them. I know it.

SPEAKER_00

The the big fish one he stole.

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, but well, it's him, technically. And Alice tries to throw a film away that has her mom in it. She is in what year was she in 1960?

SPEAKER_00

79 into 80, because it was New Year's.

SPEAKER_03

Into 80, right. And then we had the whole key is the key of it all with a note that was found in the piano.

SPEAKER_00

Peter and yeah, in the piano. Okay, so let's start with the opening.

SPEAKER_03

All right. So are we gonna talk about this one? We're just are we gonna go chronological or do you want to go well?

SPEAKER_00

Last time we did by the year. Right. So let's do it again.

SPEAKER_03

Do it by year?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, let's do it by year again.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay. All right.

SPEAKER_00

Unless you want to go chronological. No, no, no.

SPEAKER_03

I just need to see what when where do we end up? Do we end? We end in the present, so we'll do that last.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

All right, let's talk about 1925 because that's where we start. Oh, yeah. We start in 1925 and we get a replay of the pond scene, not previously on.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right.

SPEAKER_03

It's actually part of the episode. They show you where Elliot makes the conscious

1925 Elliot Stays Behind

SPEAKER_03

decision to not jump.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And yes, and him and Tessa are having a conversation. And again, he asks, Why did you do it?

SPEAKER_03

And well, he goes back to the house, and Fern and Tessa are in the house, right?

SPEAKER_00

Right, right, right, right.

SPEAKER_03

Right. And Fern is upset with Tessa. Oh, you mean you mean the beginning part.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the beginning part.

SPEAKER_03

I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I jumped ahead. That's my point. Oh, that's okay. You do you, girl?

SPEAKER_00

You do you.

SPEAKER_03

I am shutting up.

SPEAKER_00

But anyway, but they do have a conversation, and and it's the it's like a reshow of last episode where he says, Why did you do it? And she tells him it was the best thing at the time.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Now we can you are right. Write it, put it down in your calendar.

SPEAKER_00

No, why? It's being recorded right here. Oh, that's true.

SPEAKER_03

It's on the recording. You were correct. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_00

And and when I uh post it, we're gonna have thousands and thousands of our subscribers see this and hear it.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right, right.

SPEAKER_00

Our tens and tens.

SPEAKER_03

Tens of tens.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. All right.

SPEAKER_03

All right, let's go into so then we go to the house and Fern and Tessa are kind of in a heated discussion.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, they are.

SPEAKER_03

Fern is upset with Tessa because, you know, the whole she's been lied to her whole life thing. Yep. So they're having a discussion, and Fern is like, I have Grayson's film, and you can go be home with your son because Fern just wants to end it all. You know, they're at a place where Tessa could go back and be with Elliot, and she's with Grayson, so everything is good.

SPEAKER_02

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Air quotes, right? And then Elliot walks in. Tessa is not happy to see Elliot.

SPEAKER_00

Nope. Because now he's stuck.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right.

SPEAKER_00

But you know what's interesting is all these conversations happen in the Landry kitchen.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm. The kitchen table, that kitchen area is is a very popular.

SPEAKER_00

Remember, Dell said the kitchen was where it was at.

SPEAKER_03

That's right, that's right. The kitchen parties. So then you have um Tessa isn't happy. And I doesn't she tell Elliot something like, you know, you guys have made a real mess of things.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

You know, and and then she walks off, and then Elliot and Fern are on the porch, another area where we have a bunch of conversations.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_03

We love a good front porch, don't we?

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

We have all kinds of conversations on the front porch.

SPEAKER_03

And, you know, Elliot is sort of at a um across roads because he wants to have a relationship with his mom, right?

SPEAKER_00

But he doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know what to do, doesn't know what to say. And the interesting part about this is they're they're out there talking to him in Fern, and he's kind of like, Oh God, maybe I messed up. What am I gonna do? Where am I gonna stay now?

SPEAKER_03

I couldn't bring it to the front. That's why I'm like, help me, help me.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, I was kind of having a moment.

SPEAKER_03

No, you're good anyway. So I was having a moment.

SPEAKER_00

So he's like, Oh my god, where am I gonna stay? And to be honest, I was thinking the same thing. And then she because that's Cliff, Cliff is staying there, right?

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

So Fern is like, oh honey, you're you can stay here. You can be Cliff's roommate. Wow. And on that note, that's when Cliff drives up.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I think right before we see him, Fern tells Elliot we can't tell Cliff about the what the new what are they doing?

SPEAKER_00

Meeting at the meeting at the cove.

SPEAKER_03

At the cove for the new shipment or whatever's coming in and happening.

SPEAKER_00

Or or meeting at the drop, the um where the Auggy boys are, their little house. Yeah, the uh right, right, right, right.

SPEAKER_03

Right the location, the house, or why can't why are words hard for me tonight? Oh my gosh, it's gonna be a long night. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So so we then so she tells um Elliot that she he can be the roommate with Cliff. Cliff arrives, and they are now, you know, they're now roommates, and Fern calls him Tom. She introduces Elliot as Tom Buchanan.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

So now we know how Tom Buchanan became Tom Buchanan. Became Tom Buchanan.

SPEAKER_03

Because Fern gave him that name.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Right. And and Cliff says, sure was nice though, seeing you on this porch at the end of my day. It's so cute.

SPEAKER_00

He loves her, man.

SPEAKER_03

I know. I know.

SPEAKER_00

And then he tells her about the award he's supposed to be getting. Right. And he's gonna be going into town or somewhere in a hotel um overnight. So then we move on to the next scene, right?

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

And this is where Elliot walks into the Augie Boys camp.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Letting them know that he is Cooper's son. And if you got any problem with that, talk to Mama.

SPEAKER_03

Take it up with her, take it up with her, right?

SPEAKER_00

Because she will throw you off the train.

SPEAKER_03

And he has volunteered himself to join them.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Basically. And then they're both like, okay.

SPEAKER_00

And and what's interesting, did you notice the man behind them who was loading the truck?

SPEAKER_03

I did not. Yeah, suspicious.

SPEAKER_00

Suspicious. Mm-hmm. Sure did.

SPEAKER_03

You noticed it. You noticed it.

SPEAKER_00

Sure did.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna say you called it. I did not, of course, which is not surprising. All right, so we'll stay in 1925. Elliot is making dinner for he's made dinner for Cliff and for Fern. And Cliff is trying to get out of Elliot. Like, so where are you from exactly? What farm? You know, and Fern, like she's so good at like changing the conversation. She's like, let's not worry about that. And so she gets Elliot to go play the piano, and she starts to sing T for Two. Oh, it's so good. And then her, Fern and Cliff dance while Elliot is still playing the piano. And then Elliot starts playing time after time.

SPEAKER_00

Cindy Lauber. Oh Cindy Lauber.

SPEAKER_03

Oh goodness. And he sings it, which was great.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

And Fern and Cliff are dancing to it. And Tessa has come into the house but hasn't notified anybody that she's there.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And she's watching, and you can kind of see her sort of smiling, and she's sort of tearing up. And you know, you're not really sure. I mean, you just presume because she's seeing her son, and like I guess not his element because it's not his time period, but yeah. And then Elliot and Tessa go on the porch and they have a conversation.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And um, you know, she says that the basically the Augie boys have kept her up on his progress.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

Piano Night And Porch Confessions

SPEAKER_03

With him helping. So I'm not sure how much into the future we were. Is that when we went to a month later, maybe?

SPEAKER_00

It might have been.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, because we're we're skipping, we're kinda, yeah, so it might be. And you know, and he is that when he asks her again, yeah, why did she leave? Like, I just want one thing. And she basically says she was confused and scared, but not of not of Vic. She was scared of herself. And I thought that was interesting.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, she kind of revealed some information there.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because she says she wouldn't recognize that girl who jumped so long ago.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right. She was scared of who she had become. And I just think, you know, we hear those things in this series now, and it's like, there's so much more they could explore.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

There's so many stories. I know.

SPEAKER_00

I want to know. I want to know. They should have a spin-off or something.

SPEAKER_03

Well, no, continue it. And then and then he asks her if she loved Vic. Um and she says that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because she also asks if Vic or he asks if Vic was good to her, or was she afraid of Vic? And she said no, he was a kind and good man.

SPEAKER_03

And then she kind of tells the story about her and Griffin, how they they jumped, they landed in 1882.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, in Port Haven. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And they found their footing, and then she had gotten sick, very sick, and Griffin jumped to go get medicine from his time period. Time period, but it never came back.

SPEAKER_00

Nope.

SPEAKER_03

So you have to wonder, do you think Griffin tried to jump several times to go find her?

SPEAKER_00

Because the pond only takes you Well, I I seem to be getting it wrong every time, so I'm not I'm not gonna I bet it's gonna turn out that he did try to go back, but that's the first time. I think he did and just couldn't go back because the pond wasn't wasn't ready for him to go back. Right. Just just like Ellie uh Jacob could, you know, um Alice couldn't find Jacob for over 20 years. So yeah, I think he tried and didn't and couldn't make it. So she had to make her make a life there, and she ended up walking over very ill to the Landry's home. And this is how she becomes friends or auntie coop with Fern.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, she becomes part of the Landry family. They take her in.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

And yeah, so we do get a lot of information there. I think in that one scene, which is really great. And then later we'll talk a little bit more about, you know, because we think she did jump, but we don't know when. But you do find out more about that a little bit later, which which we'll get to since we're staying in 1925. But and then go ahead. I was just gonna say that Elliot then asks her about the letter that she wrote about her being sick, and she's like, I didn't write a letter.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

So of course we're like rope.

SPEAKER_00

Who wrote the letter and who delivered the letter?

SPEAKER_03

I think it was Griffin.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it was either Griffin or I don't know. Do you think her and Jacob met each other during that time period in 1825?

SPEAKER_03

Because who how did they find was Jacob in 1925?

SPEAKER_00

I don't remember. 1825.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, 1825. 1825, 1880. I don't know. Someone will correct us. We're getting our time, our years wrong. We'll just say 1800s, I don't know. But I don't, I don't think I I think it's actually gonna end up being Griffin because if he if he jumped and went back to present day, right, and then he jumped again to try to get back to her and couldn't get back to her, if he tried to keep jumping, he might have written the letter to try to make it a little bit easier on Vic and um Elliot. Like he like Griffin felt badly that he couldn't get back to help her come back to the present day.

SPEAKER_00

But but didn't we find out that it was Tessa's handwriting on the letter and in the Well, you assume it's Tessa's handwriting because they think the letter is from Tessa. Right, right.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, but then that would mean it was Griffin was there during that. That's a good point, too, though.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

It's confusing.

SPEAKER_03

Maybe, maybe Jacob, maybe it is Jacob.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

No, but he wouldn't have I'm confused. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

We'll we'll we'll skip that one because that's that's pretty interesting to me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's a whole rabbit hole.

SPEAKER_00

She says she didn't she didn't send it, but it was her handwriting according to Alice and and Kat.

SPEAKER_03

No, they think it's her handwriting because her name is on there. Love mom or whatever she signed it.

SPEAKER_00

But they noticed that the handwriting was the same as the one in the almanac for the Landry's.

SPEAKER_03

Right. And they're right, right.

SPEAKER_00

So, anyways, so then Tessa told Elliot she used to sing time after time to him and that that was their song. I loved that. Oh, that was a great rendition.

SPEAKER_03

No, I love the scene.

SPEAKER_00

No, I love the scene, but the song that Elliot sang, his rendition of it.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, it was really good.

SPEAKER_00

I loved it.

SPEAKER_03

It was really good. And you can kind of see Elliot's like, oh, I mean, it's just cool because you know, here he thought she just left him and they really she did have a connection with him, but he just

Tessa’s Origin Story Gets Real

SPEAKER_03

didn't know about it.

SPEAKER_02

Well, of course.

SPEAKER_03

So I think there's, you know, there's just gonna be a lot more to her story in two episodes.

SPEAKER_00

I know. I don't know how they're gonna do it, but I hope they do it. Right.

SPEAKER_03

So then Tessa tells Elliot he needs to be there for the shipment. He starts to tell her things about himself. You know, he says he's moving in with moving in with Kat. He's a teacher. And she's like, I always wanted to be an English teacher. And she says her favorite poet is T.S. Elliot, to which you said they T.S.

SPEAKER_00

Elliot was used throughout the the the series, and Tessa or not Tessa, but Fern uses it. But we'll get to it.

SPEAKER_03

Right, but you talked about Elliot's name.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, Elliot. That's where Elliot gets his name.

SPEAKER_03

You said, you said, oh, that's his name. And I'm like, oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

I know. It was so funny because we were sitting there watching it, and then she said, T.S. Elliot, and I'm thinking, Elliot, Elliot. Oh, that's where Elliot got his name came from.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's where Elliot came from. And still I'm sitting there like, what?

SPEAKER_00

What?

SPEAKER_03

Uh, duh. Oh, no, that was funny.

SPEAKER_00

That that was a wake-up moment there.

SPEAKER_03

That was like a space. That was a light bulb. He's like, duh. Oh my gosh, I know. If we were calling it, and then she says one of her favorite quotes is I measured my life in coffee spoons.

SPEAKER_00

Isn't that crazy?

SPEAKER_03

Right? I think that I was like, or a life can be measured in coffee. I don't know the exact quote, but I thought I was. And I was like, that's true too. How much coffee do we drink on the daily? And then Elliot mentions the clock in the wall. He says something about the clock in the wall. And Tessa's like, what? The clock. So now we're we're like, okay, so she's saying she didn't write the letter and she didn't have anything to do with the clock. Now we're really confused.

SPEAKER_00

Very confused. What happened was somebody is doing something, and then either it's gotta be Griffin or someone else. I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

And then Kat comes running up.

SPEAKER_03

Kat finally makes it back to 1925. When we get to the present day, we'll see she has been trying and trying and trying, and it's more than a month later, and she finally makes it back.

SPEAKER_00

Yay! I'm so glad.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And I loved when, you know, Elliot tells Kat, because she's upset thinking he kept everything from her on purpose, which he did.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

But she didn't really appreciate that. But he's like, I didn't tell you that I saw my picture because I get arrested and I don't want you to be in any danger.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Like I specifically didn't tell you. I wanted you to go back home and me to stay because I don't want to put you in that position.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And she's like, Well, I would still come. And he's like, I know, I want to take care of you.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You know?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he does. He loves her. But I thought it was interesting because she wants to go back. And he's like, No, I want to get to know my mom. And she's like, Well, you're going to be in danger. And he's like, Well, you did it when it was your family. But you want me to go back when it's my family. I thought that was intense. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, it was pretty intense. And then well, because he says something about how he's helping them. And she's like, You're bootlegging now. No, I know that was a good thing. They get into a little fight, and she's like, Tessa's setting you up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. You know. She's the one that left you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he's like, I'm not leaving until the job's done. And gets up and walks away. And jots the mic.

SPEAKER_03

And then a little bit later, we have this scene of um Fern and Tessa.

SPEAKER_02

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

Coop. They're in the speakeasy. And Fern wants to tell Cliff everything because you know Fern has caught some feelings.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Lots of feelings for little Cliffy. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

A whole bunch of feelings.

SPEAKER_03

And um, but Coop is like, you know, no. And then Coop gives her a bracelet.

SPEAKER_00

With a little key on it.

SPEAKER_03

With a little key on it, and it's a magical music at that moment, which I thought was great. The music is so well placed. It is. And then Kat is there kind of watching them.

SPEAKER_01

And listening, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And listening. And then When Fern goes to leave, she's like, Oh, I got my bracelet. Because it don't they talk about the bracelet at some point?

SPEAKER_00

Yes. That's when when Kat started jumping to find Fern in one of the pictures, Fern has the bracelet. So when Kat jumped one time and Fern was at the pond, she said, Where's the bracelet? I know you know Cooper. I know you know Tessa. And she's like, Maybe it hasn't happened yet. Which it hadn't happened. And that was the scene where it actually happens.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, where she's like, I realize I finally got it. And then Kat and Tessa have a chat, and you know, Kat's really giving it to Tessa, and Tessa keeps saying, You don't understand.

SPEAKER_00

You're not a mom.

SPEAKER_03

You're not a mom. And Kat's like, Unlike you. Well, Kat says, Unlike you, I wouldn't abandon Elliot.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then she says she would never leave Alice behind. And Kat turns around to leave, and Tessa says, Alice. And she, I think, in that moment is realizing who Alice is. Who Alice is and who Alice was in the 70s. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You're 100% right. Yeah. That was that was some good writing right there to catch those little nuances.

SPEAKER_03

So do we want to hold off on the like towards the end part of 1925?

SPEAKER_00

Or well, it's up to you.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, we got they do kind of intersect. Well, then we go, we're still in 1925, and Fern and Kat are at the farm. They're waiting for Cliff to leave because they um and Grayson is there.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And Cliff is gonna leave to go get his award. He's won a major award.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh, a major one.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, a major award. And Grayson's like, oh, tell me where you're staying. And Cliff says the Saint Regis. And then when or not the Saint Regis, the Regis. And when Cli Cliff leaves, Grayson

The Bracelet Key Changes Everything

SPEAKER_03

tells Fern and Cat that Cliff is lying. Right. Because the Regis close. So now they know that Cliff is a very good thing. Three years prior. Cliff isn't probably going away. He's probably on to the shipment that they're all going to.

SPEAKER_02

The hockey brothers.

SPEAKER_03

Right. The hideout or whatever it is. Right. He's he's kind of on to them. So then now they're suspicious of Cliff.

SPEAKER_00

Right. And that's when another light bulb goes off. And they all um Kat realizes what's actually happening.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, right, right, right. That's when they realize, yeah, I spoke a little too soon. Right. And Fern says, Cliff isn't a liar, and if he is, why would he lie? And that's when Kat realizes. Right. That Cliff's a liar, liar pants on fire.

SPEAKER_00

Pants on fire.

SPEAKER_03

But there's a good reason for it. There's a good reason for it.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. All right. So do you want to continue in 1925?

SPEAKER_03

Um, sure.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So the next scene is Alice and Fern running up to Elliot at the Augie Boys place. And uh that's when the bus goes down. Cat and Elliot okay are yeah, Kat and Elliot. I mean Cat and Fern show up show up and to where Elliot is when he's at the Augie Boys, they're loading a truck full of the um the boot the liquor, and that's when the bus goes down. And the guy that I was talking about loading the truck in the one scene is actually undercover.

SPEAKER_03

Right. And you literally are like, that's the guy from Yeah, from the one scene. Yeah, from the one scene. He's back. He was undercover the whole time.

SPEAKER_00

So yes, Cliff was lying.

SPEAKER_03

So then they have the raid going on. There's like some dramatic shooting at the Augie brothers, and one of them, you know, and Elliot's like, No, it's my family. But then he tells the Augie brothers, run, run.

SPEAKER_00

His great grandfather is the one that gets shot and tells them all to run.

SPEAKER_03

So they proceed to take off, and Cliff finds um Tessa, Elliot, and Kat at first.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And he's shocked. And then Fern jumps in front of them and she's like, No, no, don't arrest them, you know. And it and it actually is kind of a you know a great scene in that Fern admits how she feels about Cliff, and she's like, you know, I'm so sorry I didn't tell you, but I couldn't, you know. And you know, you were you saw me. She tells Cliff, you saw me, how I always wanted to see myself, and she's crying. And it's just such a very powerful scene. Yeah, very, very powerful, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then what does Cleafy do?

SPEAKER_03

He lets them go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he lets them go.

SPEAKER_03

He tells them to run. Right. Right? He against his better judgment, but he says run because he's in love.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. So now it's the next day, morning, probably, and Elliot and Kat are outside of the Landroid house by the tree, and Elliot tells Kat that Tessa's gonna meet them at the pond later, and he he thinks that they're all gonna jump. Yeah. Well, Cliff and Fern are arguing in a house, which ends up outside, and this was another good scene.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but Fern is trying to explain to him everything and gives him the piece of paper, and which is very important.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And this is the piece of paper that was around the piano key in the present time that the piano tech found. And Fern is confessing she didn't know or what she didn't know what she wanted, but she does now. And it this scene is so good because you could hear the music starting to build up. Yes. And you finished telling it because you're good at telling these things. I can't tell you.

SPEAKER_03

Um, I'm let me find my notes for you. Um, she says, you know, here she goes to hand him a piece of paper and she's like, This will explain everything. And it is the paper that, like you said, was wrapped around the key, but it doesn't have Cliff's note on it yet. It's just the key on the front with the words. And, you know, Cliff says he can't stay, he feels betrayed. Fern says the farm came alive, yes, came back to life when he showed up. He looked at those empty rooms and he saw life and he brought everything back, and she wants him, and there's very dramatic music. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And then they end up hugging, they end up running into each other's arms and hugging, yeah. Oh, I thought that was so great.

SPEAKER_03

All right, so then we move um to the pond, and Tessa, it's Tessa, Elliot, and Kat, and Elliot is really hoping that Tessa is going back with them. And Tessa is like, I can't jump. My life is here.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Like, what am I gonna do there? I, you know, I I can't go with you. And then Elliot tells her that he's gonna be back on New Year's Eve, and he wants her to meet him at the pond on New Year's Eve.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then Kat and Elliot jump and go back to the present day.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

The Raid And Cliff’s Choice

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So that's so that's 1925. 1925. All right, so that's a lot.

SPEAKER_03

All right, so let's go to what was it?

SPEAKER_00

Uh eight 1983.

SPEAKER_03

All right, so we'll try to, and this isn't this isn't too terrible. Is it 83 or 82? I can't remember.

SPEAKER_00

This one, I think uh What year did we say Kat was born? We 82.

SPEAKER_03

So I think it's 82.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're right. It's 82.

SPEAKER_03

82.

SPEAKER_00

So Alice jumps A3 and she sees Dell, Colton, Evelyn, Tessa, and Vic. They're all having drinks under their uh pergola um outside of the Landry home. And you Tessa's pregnant and Del is now pregnant, we find out. And you can see on Evelyn's face, she's not happy, and she seems kind of sad, and they're having a discussion and they're they're getting ready to toast, and Evelyn says, I'm done, I'm out. But meanwhile, Alice is watching this all behind a tree. So, and the look on her face when she sees that Dell is pregnant was was pretty good. It was priceless, right?

SPEAKER_03

Right. She's she's very happy that she gets to witness that particular moment because it's you know it's happy times now for Dell and for Cole, Colton. And what's interesting too is Tessa's having a hard time with her pregnancy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You remember Vic says she's not sleeping, and Tessa kind of plays it off. So I wonder if there's going to be some of that that plays into well.

SPEAKER_00

Remember when they were running in the woods from Cliff, Elliot had said, We have to wait for my mom, and Kat was like, No, why should we wait? She left you, and Tessa comes running up and says, No, she didn't. So was she talking about someone else as his mother, or was she talking about her in the third person or whatever?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, she didn't.

SPEAKER_03

So I I wonder, I don't know if she was talking about herself. I I think she was talking about herself, like, no, she didn't, but maybe she was talking about somebody else. But then who is Elliot's mom?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Her mom. I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. All right.

SPEAKER_03

So then we get Well, maybe that will end up playing into it. I mean, you never know.

SPEAKER_00

Well, they only have two episodes left, so somebody's gotta do something.

SPEAKER_03

So then, so then we get to Evie's excited to see Alice, right? It's Evie's birthday. She says her parents have moved to Switzerland, but she is all by herself in that ginormous manor or mansion, whatever you want to call it.

SPEAKER_00

And they gave it to her. So it's all right. Right.

SPEAKER_03

Now Alice has asked her about the reel because she and her mom in present day, which we haven't talked about yet, realized that Evie probably had the reel. Right. Because it shows up in present day.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And that that Alice thought she threw away in the last episode. And Evie's like, that reel is gone. I was gonna get it, but then Jap Jasper said it disappeared.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

So now we don't know is Evie telling the truth, but she's really drunk at this point.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

She's kind of drunk, so you know, it's the truth serum serum. So maybe she is telling the truth.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that is true. And then the next scene is Alice and Evelyn again. Evelyn is um, she's a little jelly of of Dale and Colton, you know, jelly. She she she kind of liked Colton. Remember back in the early seasons, um, she kind of liked him. And she confesses about having a full life at 25. She goes, I'm 25, and I've already had a full life.

SPEAKER_03

Um, because she's had a baby. She's divorced, she's married.

SPEAKER_00

She's divorced, she's alone, she's got a house.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but then she says, Alice, you haven't aged at all, you know. Who are you, Alice? In Wonderland.

SPEAKER_02

Who are you?

SPEAKER_00

And she's kind of drunk when she's saying this. So she's like, Who are you, Alice? And as she's laying down, she says, In Wonderland. So does she? I miss that. I thought that was an interesting say right there.

SPEAKER_03

That's cute.

SPEAKER_00

And so Evelyn passes out, but here I thought this was good because Alice says um to Evelyn, and of course, Evelyn's passed out after she passes out. I'm still the friend who is always there for you when you need me.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Well.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my God, that tore at my heart.

SPEAKER_03

It tore at your heartstrings and pulled at your heartstrings a little bit, a little bit.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So then Alice uh goes back to Landry Farm and she sees Del and Cole on the porch. And Del is saying, you know, to Colton, you know, we're only here because of you, because you push me to move forward after our hard times. And Alice is watching and crying and just really appreciating that she's getting to witness them right now during their happy times.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. So she went through all the hard times and now she sees the happy times. So now we're

1982 Alice Sees A Turning Point

SPEAKER_00

moving into the present time.

SPEAKER_03

So in the present day, when we first start the episode, it's one month later. Kat has tried to jump in, and the pond will not take her. Spits of will not take her to won't take her at all anywhere. She's still there, right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So she's grappling with the fact that Elliot didn't tell her about the picture and she can't understand why.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And then we have Abby and Jacob are in the loft in the barn. Now that loft is a character in the show.

SPEAKER_00

It sure is.

SPEAKER_03

The loft is seen a lot of a lot of times during the series, which I think is so cool. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It is.

SPEAKER_03

And they're still like hiding their relationship from everybody. They're keeping it a secret.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. And yeah, that was a good scene too.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. It was kind of cool.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And she she asked them, Where did you come from? And I was like, if she only knew if she only knew the truth.

SPEAKER_03

And then we go to the point, which is the present-day name of Coils.

SPEAKER_00

Because they're having a party. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

And Alice is talking to Monica, and she's, you know, Alice is feeling frozen in her writing. Right. Right. Like she feels like she can't write. And Monica is. Oh, I think that are they at the party?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're at the point. And Kat, it's Kat, Alice, Sam, Monica.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right.

SPEAKER_00

Alice is telling Sam, uh Kat that she feels like her song writing as doll and Max was right. Yeah. So yeah, that was kind of a pity party.

SPEAKER_03

And then Monica starts playing the film, and Kat and Alice start to freak out because they're gonna see they're both in the film from the 1970s, and they're like, oh my gosh, they're gonna see us. And then and then all of a sudden they realize it's been spliced together and they have been completely cut out of the film. And that's when they ask Monica where she got it, and she says, Jude.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, got it from Evelyn's estate sale.

SPEAKER_03

Evelyn's estate sale. Yes. Yeah, which I thought was cool. So Evelyn did have it.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

You know.

SPEAKER_00

Or so we think.

SPEAKER_03

Or it ended up at her house.

SPEAKER_00

Somehow it ended up in her house.

SPEAKER_03

Someone put it there.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

And at the party, Del has noticed the way Jacob and Abby are looking at each other. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

That was that was so funny. And mothers know, right? Right.

SPEAKER_03

Mothers know. And then you fast forward to the next morning, and Del is talking to Jacob, and Jacob fesses up and says, you know, that he and Abby are really into each other. They've caught feelings, right? As the kids say these days. And you know, Del's like, invite her to dinner.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You know, and that way you don't have to hang out in the dusty old barn. And Jacob's like, huh? You know about that?

SPEAKER_00

Kids are so she's like, I do now.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you know, parents know they don't know everything, but eventually they do. You know.

SPEAKER_00

That was so funny. And then you get Alice and Kat are at the pond. Alice jumps in to go see Evelyn and to see what she knows.

SPEAKER_03

Yes. I know there's just a lot. There's a lot packed into these episodes, people. A lot packed in. And then we have Jacob and Abby. They're in the barn. And back in the loft. He tells her he wants them, you know, he wants her to join him for dinner. And she's like, it's fine. It's totally fine. It's fine. I'm a marketing whiz. I can do this. I can handle it. You know, I can handle one mother.

SPEAKER_00

I dealt with million-dollar contracts.

SPEAKER_03

It's like the epitome of go is going to meet the parents, right? Especially the mom. As a female, going to meet the mom of the guy you're dating is always intimidating.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And this is where Jacob decides to tell her he loves her. Oh my God. And the good thing is she's she says it back.

SPEAKER_03

She says it back. So I was so happy.

SPEAKER_00

They're in love.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

So now we're at the dinner table with Dell, Sam, Jacob, and Abby.

SPEAKER_03

This is a great scene. This is a great scene.

SPEAKER_00

I think this is probably my favorite scene because, you know, when you're sitting there and you're meeting the parents and you say the dumbest things that you don't mean to say, but they just come out wrong. That's what Abby did.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yeah. And Abby kind of trips over her own words. And I mean, there it's just such a cute and fun scene. And I didn't write everything down that that Abby says, but like there's

Present Day Film Shock And Dinner

SPEAKER_03

a point where Del, because Abby talks about where she lives in one place and her family lives in another. I forget about her family being separated, and Del's like, it must be hard being separated like that. And Abby's like, it was great. You know, and and she sees the look on Del's face, and Abby's like, no, no, no. I mean, what happened to you guys was horrible with you know with Jacob being gone. You know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_03

And then she's talking, Abby's talk, they're talking about the country life. And because I think Del says something to her about, you know, well, City Mouse like you wouldn't know something about the country life. Right. And and she Abby's like, it's there's too much peace and quiet is boring. And she's like, but not that Port Haven is boring. I love Port Haven. And it's just it was so fun little moment. It didn't really last that long, but it's so cute.

SPEAKER_00

And the way that actress played it out, yeah, was so great with you know, with with Dell and with, you know, so and poor Sam, he's over there laughing, and he kind of helps Abby out by saying he's a city mouse too.

SPEAKER_03

So right, right. And Andy McDowell is so good in it too because she is she's kind of I I didn't really take it as like digs, but she's kind of like, well, you wouldn't understand because you're a city person, and you know, she wasn't really maybe kind of digging a little bit, but not not terribly hard, you know, and it wasn't like mean or vindictive.

SPEAKER_00

So I agree.

SPEAKER_03

And then Abby talks about how she's you know, she's only in town to help her dad with the marketing, and she's gonna go back to Toronto. And Elliot is hearing her for the first time, and he just hadn't really thought about that.

SPEAKER_00

And you can just hear that record scratch.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, yeah, yeah, right.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that was so good.

SPEAKER_03

So now they have some things to think about and talk about right after they've professed their love for one another.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then we have Alice in her bedroom, and apparently she finished a song she was up all night because she was inspired by CN Dell and uh Cole back in the 80s. Yeah. And who does she text saying, Hey, here's my song, You Are the First? It's not Noah.

SPEAKER_03

It's not Noah, it's Max.

SPEAKER_00

After Max treated her the way he treated her. Are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_03

And the song is called Already Home.

SPEAKER_00

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

So I have a feeling we're gonna hear that at some point.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I know. I just I just didn't I wish it would have been Noah, but it wasn't. And then go ahead.

SPEAKER_03

Alice tells Dell that she saw them when you know when Del was pregnant.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

And Del's basically like, I'm glad you got to see that. She's really touched by that, and she's happy that Alice got to see her happy because and pregnant.

SPEAKER_00

Because that pregnancy brought her that's yeah, yeah. And now we get Jacob, he runs into Abby at the point and tells her, you know, they can make the long distance. This is what's funny to me, because you know, he he was living in the 1800s and he's like, we can make the long distance count. They have phones now.

SPEAKER_03

I know it can happen, it can work. I know that was so funny. The way they play into that, yeah, that was really good. Yeah, and then Abby says she's gonna tell her dad the truth.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because she's gonna stay. Aww.

SPEAKER_03

We're gonna see, no, about well, the truth about her and Elliot.

SPEAKER_00

Right. Right. And see what transpires, right?

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_00

And then we have Elliot and Kat um walk into the house and they greet Del, you know, because they jump back to the present time and now's right. And then Dell and Sam are on the porch swing. Sam tells Del, you know, he knows about the pond. Because Del is kind of having a moment. Oh, I'm sorry, excuse me.

SPEAKER_03

She's happy that her kids are happy.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

And she says something about Colton, like, I wish Colton could see this, or something like that.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

And Sam is like, Well, why don't you go tell him?

SPEAKER_00

That's right. Yep, he did.

SPEAKER_03

And Dell says, What?

SPEAKER_00

She kind of has that.

SPEAKER_03

That was so funny. Go on. Do 10. No, she does, she does really look shocked in that moment. Yeah. And that's when she realizes that Sam knows.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. He says, I know about the pawn.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

And then we get Kat and Elliot looking at the papers that Elliot four fingered and one thumb home.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um, being arrested.

SPEAKER_03

He stole them, yes.

SPEAKER_00

And Kat asked Elliot why he was looking at all of Fern's articles, and he said he noticed a pattern um with her writing. And she was using the uh T.S. Elliot, you know, kind of writing uh skills. And um she she said Fern, she is just a messenger, right?

SPEAKER_03

And well, Fern had said that.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right. Yeah. And I thought that was interesting because that's when you find because who was it? Was it Kat? Was like, wait a minute. I I remember that, right? And then Kat and Elliot figure out what the words and what the key is. The key is the key, which was uh um oh god, what is it? A cipher. A cipher, thing.

SPEAKER_03

A cipher.

SPEAKER_00

Which I thought was really good. And did you write out what it was?

SPEAKER_03

Well, yeah, what what's interesting about the cipher is we play that game Hunter Killer all the time, which we've talked about before, and there are ciphers in that, and I can't believe we didn't think about that. I mean, we thought about the letter before.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I think it says, and so we were kind of trying to associate that, but it's actually a cipher. So one letter, you go to that letter in a newspaper article, and then you look at the word before or whatever, you know.

SPEAKER_00

Well it's it ends up being. It is it was you looked at the the word good, and whatever letter was after that, that's the one you write down.

Decoding The Cipher And Theories

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_03

Right. But how did they know which paper to look in?

SPEAKER_00

That's a good question.

SPEAKER_03

Which article to look at. That was my only like, wait, what?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I guess I don't know. That's a good question, but it happened to be the one where he was arrested, uh known as the big fish.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and then they realized Fern was sending codes to Tessa through that, and then so it ended up saying NYE New Year's Eve, job botched, tunnels destroyed, five souls in, four out, and Tessa gone. Right. So now they're realizing five souls went in the tunnel, four came out, so one did not, and Tessa gone. So is the one person that didn't make it out the same as Tessa gone?

SPEAKER_00

Is that like it was Tessa who can't?

SPEAKER_03

Is it Tessa or is it not? See, I think what's gonna end up happening is even if Tessa is in the tunnels, I think she's gonna end up going to the pond and catching up with Elliot and they're gonna jump. That's what I think.

SPEAKER_00

Well, here's here's who I think is in there. I think it is actually Cliff. I think Cliff is the one because he's the one that left the letter in the piano, and that and Fern just thinks he never comes back, that he didn't love her.

SPEAKER_03

Right. So he had to put it in there sometime.

SPEAKER_00

So he had to put it in there before he left for that tunnel. But I think it's him that gets stuck in that tunnel. Now, whether or not he dies or jumps, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

We don't know. Yeah, and with Tessa gone, well, but Kat would have to be there too if she were to jump. See, I think I think she's gonna end up going back because she will be kind of backed into a corner in 1925.

SPEAKER_00

And that's why people think she's gone. That's why Fern thinks she's gone.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

unknown

Yep, right.

SPEAKER_00

I agree.

SPEAKER_03

But then who would the but if it says Tessa gone, who's the message for then? Who is Tessa, who is Fern sending the message to?

SPEAKER_00

Well, that's a good question. Is it someone else? I don't know. We're gonna find out. Who do you guys think it is? People out there on the podcast land, who do you think it is? Leave some comments down below. We love to talk about it, like to hear what your ideas are. So we kind of had all those revelations, which I thought was great.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We finally figured out who went in and who didn't. So what was it who went in or who went in the tunnel? We find out about the tunnel and the explosion.

SPEAKER_03

Well, we've known about the tunnel. We just we still don't know who didn't make it.

SPEAKER_00

Right, right. So what was your best moment?

SPEAKER_03

Uh my favorite moment is the dinner scene.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

With Abby, Elliot, Sam, and Tell. I just thought it wasn't that long.

SPEAKER_00

It was

Ratings Favorites And Farewell

SPEAKER_00

so well read.

SPEAKER_03

I just thought it was so well done and so well played and so real, you know, when you go to meet I agree. The parents of whoever you're dating, it's always nerve-wracking the first time, and you don't want to say anything stupid, and then you end up saying something stupid and you regret it. And so I just thought it was, I thought it was great. I thought it was well played. I really liked it. What about you?

SPEAKER_00

Me too. That was my favorite scene, too. Same. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Same. All right. Character of the week. Who's your character of the week?

SPEAKER_00

Man, I gotta go back to Fern, man, because I just love her so much. And this is good. And every scene she's in, she's like innocent. It's effortless. It's her. For me, it's her in this episode. Who do you think?

SPEAKER_03

She's so good. I'm gonna go with Jacob. Just because I love I like, I like his the evolution of that character, how he's come to terms with modern day, how he's dating, but he's still sort of old-fashioned because he's still, you know, got the 1800s mindset, which is fine to a point. But then because he does come around to with with um with Abby, he's like, you know, I didn't even consider that you might go back right to where you you were living in Toronto, you know, and he's like, and I know we can make it work. And I just kind of think that that shows the evolution of his character. I just so he he's my character of the week.

SPEAKER_00

He was well ridden.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So out of five jumps, how many are you jumping in?

SPEAKER_03

How many are you doing? I want you to go five.

SPEAKER_00

I'm doing five. This was a this was a great episode for me.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna go five also. I think we have I I am so sad that there's only two episodes left.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_03

Um I'm worried about the final two episodes. I don't know what's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_00

Um I hope it's a happily happy ever after. I I don't know that we're gonna get that, but um Or they leave a cliffhanger so that somewhere down the road they can reopen this.

SPEAKER_03

I hope so. I hope so. We have enough characters and storylines. My gracious, we gotta get to the 80s. We gotta come back just for a movie about the 80s. Come on.

SPEAKER_00

Let's do it. Let's do it, Hallmark.
